A testament to one's character can often be found in the words someone else writes. Among several school items in a box of Debi's keepsakes, there was a speech written by Jane Getken, a volleyball teammate of Debi's. The speech demonstrates how Debi was thought of by her friends & teammates.
"Sometimes on a team there seems to be one person who holds everyone together and inspires them when they happen to be down. I think we were really [privileged] to have such a person on our team this year. That person is Debbie Boggs.
I think everyone has to agree Debbie was great on the day of the tournament. She [kept] the reserve team running smoothly the whole day without any help. People have said that without Deb reserves might not have [done] as well as they did.
Debbie is a riot at practice, as you all know. I don't think I've ever seen anyone who can collapse in a heap as gracefully as Boggsie does. Her serves are wild! I look like I'm going to fall on my face when I serve, but not Debbie. She starts off with a graceful win-up then finishes with a little dance step. Sometimes I'm not sure if she's going to serve, or do a ballet scene, but for her serving consistency I'd try anything.
Debbie is the type of person a team respects and admires. She's got the spirit and determination that goes to make up a great team member. She's going to leave behind an empty space that won't be easy to fill. To end, I'd like to say, 'Good luck Debbie, and we're going to miss you!' -- Jane Getken"
